Phone etiquette for boys

Patric, my boy who is no longer a boy, but a young man. We are on a new journey with him, a new road that I personally wished would never come. Patric wants to talk to girls on the phone. Wow, that came out easier than I thought it would!
So, what is the proper phone etiquette for a young man to talk on the phone with a young lady? I want you to know, I am doing the research to go along with this new adventure. I mean come on they are only 8 (or soon will be). It was fun to listen to Patric's attempt to have a conversation with the girl, and cute all at the same time. But it reminded me how much farther we need to go in teaching him the proper way to respond to people.
The conversation started with "its me Patric," "Can I talk to R?" Though it was very cute, I cringed. Lesson one here we go! I even called the girls mom back to ensure that this would not be a problem, and that Kevin and I would be monitoring his phone calls. So what makes it even better was the fact that my to be 8yr old asked for a cell phone for his birthday! NOT! If the boy cant keep up with a DSi he can not have a cell phone, or his room clean for that matter.
I watch him as he sleeps, and I wonder when did we cross the line between being small and becoming a young man, it seemed to happen overnight. One day I am telling him to play nice with Benjamin, which is still the conversation of choice, to Patric, when you talk on the phone you have to say "May I" and tell the person who you are. Wow!
Well, I have a feeling more adventures with this are headed my way, they go along with gift giving, for girls too, which now I see he has resorted to stealing his brothers favorite stuffed animal to give her, when he forgets at the last moment that he promised her a gift. Good thing he doesn't have a big sister to steal from. I now get to do daily bag checks, for his stash!
Happy Days!
